Growing up in the developing world, I was surrounded by poverty.  Once you have seen real poverty, it is impossible to forget it or ignore it.  In a nutshell, poverty is lost human potential – a lifetime of lost laughter, unrealized creativity, and shattered dreams.

In high-school, I promised not to be a bystander to this tragedy. That my actions would be guided by a desire to make a difference. Not some abstract idea of it, but a type of difference that I could verify with all of my senses. This promise led me to first work for corporations, to learn and apply policy research, and to finally to teach new arrivals to the USA with little or no formal education.

You have to work hardest for the things you love most.
